* More than 5.4 million youth (ages 16 – 24) are not in school and do not have a job

* The United States is 17th among developed nations in terms of the percentage of youth who graduate high school

* 32% of American students never graduate from high school

* Employment for teens is at the lowest level in 57 years, with as few as 20 percent of black teens employed at any one time

* Only half of all students of color graduate high school

* 65% of all young adults who are incarcerated did not finish high school

* The death rate for persons with less than 12 years of education is 2.5 times higher than for those with 13 years of education or more

The Campaign for Youth has developed a set of recommendations for a national strategy for federal investment to reconnect youth who are out of school, out of work and disconnected.
